We had our last Saturday of the month sketchwalk at Whampoa; one of the oldest housing estates in Singapore. The building is the coffee shop frequented by many taxi drivers and it is adjacent to the small bus terminal. The minaret of the mosque provided a vertical landmark for the area. I intended to sketch the right half and was enjoying talking and sketching at the same time to sketchers, strangers, uncles, aunties and kids. Then I was demonstrating and continued with the trees and buildings and sketching away the left half. Half way into the sketch, an uncle stopped and asked “Are you ppl from China on a painting trip? Such great skills u all have”. I answered proudly “Uncle, we have many local talents here in Singapore lah!”
