Civil War Reenacted in Fresno

Fresno Civil War reenactment

We visited the Civil War re-enactment at Kearney Park in Fresno. This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. Today the troops re-enacted the first day of the battle, when General Lee’s troops gave the Union soldiers a beating. The troops did a great job on the field, and the horses kept their senses, despite the deafening cannon volleys from both sides. After the battle, Bill Peck, portraying Abraham Lincoln, gave the Gettysburg Address. I have to say, he truly does wear the hat well, as people crowd around him all day and take photos with him. He not only looks like Lincoln, but his mannerisms and way with folks makes you begin to wonder if it’s not really him. Before the battle, he, and several other historical figures, made themselves available to field questions from the general public, many of whom were kids, and they appeared to know their characters very well. Before the battle, I had some time to scout around the camps with my sketchbook, of course.
