Drawing history

Last Saturday, a lucky few from the London Urban Sketchers were
invited to go and draw in Silvertown, an area to the east of the city in the
heart of the old docks which is currently being redeveloped.

The huge ‘Millennium Mills’ building towers over the site
and it was a little daunting to know where to start, especially as I soon
realised I’d forgotten pencils and my trusty Tikki pens.  So it was straight in with the watercolour,
adding a little detail with a handful of watercolour markers I had remembered.

The sheer size of the structure was quite spectacular, dominating
the surrounding area and the gloomy skies which were overhead for a large part
of the day added to the drama.

Nearby the only other remaining building is the solitary Silo
D.  It used to be joined by A, B and C
but they have long gone.

The sun made an appearance in the afternoon, casting
beautiful shadows on the whitewashed walls.
