[Liz Ackerley tarafından] We are now on the 12th week of my countdown which means that we only have 5 more weeks until the USk International Symposium here in Manchester! For this sketch, I have travelled passed the viaducts to the junction of Oxford Street with Whitworth Street. This is an impressive and complex scene combining 3 key buildings: The Palace Theatre (only just on the drawing, on the left hand side), The Palace Hotel and The Cornerhouse. The Cornerhouse main building was a centre for cinema and the contemporary visual arts next to Oxford Road Station on Oxford Street. It opened in 1985. In 2012, it was announced that Cornerhouse would merge with the Library Theatre Company to form HOME. In 2015, both organisations moved to new premises at the HOME centre. The Palace Theatre is one of the main theatres in Manchester and one of the best equipped and popular theatres outside London. In its repertoire it hosts major touring musicals often with major celebrities and performances of opera and ballet along with various other comedy acts and one night concerts. The Palace Hotel is an impressive Victorian Grade II listed red brick and terracotta building first designed for the Refuge Assurance Company in 1895. It was converted into a hotel in 1996 at a cost of £7 million and is currently undergoing refurbishment.
