On a flying visit to the Bay Area last weekend I connected with my old sketch buddies Mike Dutton ve Matt Cruickshank at Jack London Square in Oakland. We checked out the old saloon bar I’d long wanted to draw – Heinolds’ . . .
. . . it’s compact interior is full of ephemera from a century of visitors. The ceiling barely visible beneath a hundred hats and the bar is poised at a jaunty angle. The bar tender dropped rubber creepy crawlies on the unsuspecting!
From my hotel room I had a great view of another Oakland landmark I never managed to sketch while living in the Bay Area-the Oakland Tribute tower.
