May 2, 2021 “Colonial Influence on Pune”
USK Pune: Manish Pimpley, Mayuresh Shirolkar, Ànand Ukidve
In the 17th Episode of USk Talks we presented one last reportage project winner of Season 2–“Colonial Influence on Pune” showcasing the vast body of work created by the local USk Pune chapter. The era of British rule had a profound impact on many areas of life in India – it influenced traditions, dress, cuisine, culture, the legal system. The project looks at how these influences have manifested themselves on the architecture of Pune.
With many of local sketchers coming from architectural backgrounds they have a keen eye for noticing elements and teasing apart influences. The group also demonstrates great curiosity about the larger historical context. The project looks at the comparisons between the traditional elements and colonial elements and how they fuse together.
Also, as we approach the end of Season 2 of USk Talks we wanted to celebrate our amazing community by showcasing some of your work posted in response to our weekly sketching challenges.
Challenge: Historical Influences in Architecture
