Two more from the West

Hawthorn view--more Nevada sketches

This was the view from our 3rd floor hotel room, at the Hawthorn in Henderson, NV–the sun came up over those mountains and into our room. It was a lovely way to wake! The last morning we were there, I did this quick gesture sketch and added color, mostly wet-in-wet, with my little muted primaries travel kit I made from an Altoids tin. here:

You can click on the image for a closer look–I changed out the original gold ochre for Quin gold, as you see here–it’s got more energy, and it’s more transparent. The tiny set is lightweight, it DOES travel well, and it’s really versatile. I used it on this one, too, my husband at the laptop in the morning (that’s his favorite “Old Guys Rule, high mileage, low maintenance” t-shirt!):
