The Inside Scoop

insidescoop122009f

southbynorthwestTwo sketchbooks separated by 3142 miles. That’s the idea fellow urban sketcher correspondent Thomas Thorspecken proposed me a few weeks ago as a collaborative project for 2010.

We both live in opposite parts of the United States. He is in sunny Orlando, I’m in rainy Seattle. What a great idea I thought. I’ve been a great fan of Thor’s work since he started Analog Artist Digital World exactly a year ago today. Tom is the kind of guy who likes to kick off the year with clear goals in mind! I took him up on the challenge right away and our blog South by Northwest makes its debut today.

I look forward to see where this project will take us as we post our sketches side-by-side once a week. We welcome your comments.

Above is my first sketch at SBNW, a scene from a visit with my daughter to our favorite ice cream parlor in the neighborhood, The Inside Scoop. Don’t miss Tom’s ‘icey’ sketch from Orlando on the blog.

Here’s to 2010, wishing urban sketchers around the world a productive and inspired year!
