Work on Frank Gehry’s new space for the New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami is well underway, and there’s a throb of heavy machinery working on the park before it. I’m standing next to the side of the building as I draw this, the edifice I associate most immediately with Miami Beach: the office block with the ever-changing display showing the time and temperature (in fahrenheit, so I don’t understand it, except that it’s much hotter than London). Perhaps next year I’ll draw the Gehry. This is Miami to me for now.
