A while back, someone in our little sketching group in Stockholm got the idea that we should go sketching at IKEA some time. The biggest IKEA in the world is situated just south of Stockholm, it´s always shockingly full of people, the parking lot is always crowded (they seem to add another floor to it each year), and it seemed like a crazy enough place to go sketching. So today we did.
I think this was the first time I truly enjoyed being at IKEA on a weekend. No errands, no standing in lines waiting for help in the info desks, just relaxing and sketching away with the free art supply provided by IKEA – their little note taking pencils turned out to be great for value sketching.
Drawing in IKEA turned out to be more fun that I could imagine. The perspective challenges are endless, and there are people everywhere (good for sketching, bad for shopping), you have an endless choice of comfy furniture to sit on, and a café on every floor. Sketching in dark and cold November doesn´t get much better than this. 😉
