In London we had a weekend where over 300 artists hit the streets of Chelsea to take part in a Competition called, “Pintar Rapido” -(Painting Rapidly). The First prize was a £1,000 and all the works were to be exhibited the next day. Lots of artists worked in different media from Oil, Acrylic, watercolour, pen and wash, Charcoal etc. I worked in acrylic.
Working on the main piece |
On the day before the exhibition, I went to the spot where I would be painting on the competition day to do a sketch. Doing the sketch first really helped me to solve lots of problems like perspectivde and scale. Things that would bug me on the day. The sketch can be seen below. The sketch was 8″ x 10″ – I did it with graphite in my A4 Moleskine Sketchbook
The sketch I did to familiarize myself with the scene. |
Then on the day of the competition I worked with acrylics on a 30″ x 24″ linen Canvas. I painted from 10am till 4pm, till I got exhausted!

These are some pictures of me painting and the work in progress.

I was happy to find out that I won the First prize the next day! It was a great exhibition with loads of great work and sales!
