Piccadilly Station, Manchester

main concourse
platform 10

Last week the Manchester Urban Sketching group met at Piccadilly Station on a very busy Sunday afternoon. Fabulous turnout…at least 28 counted, including regular and new sketchers, and great that some Sketchcrawl North folk joined us. I concentrated on 2 drawings; one on a platform and one in the distractingly busy main concourse. Below is a selection of the sketches from the afternoon. What I love is the variety of subject material….and everyone has a unique viewpoint; for example architectural (me for one!), trains, people, collaged sketches and even close up pigeon studies!!

At the end of the afternoon we had arranged to meet at the first floor terrace bar – but whilst we’d been sketching Manchester United had lost at home to Liverpool (3-0 – not good!) and the terrace furniture had been removed. Not only that, but there was now a heavy police presence in anticipation of the imminent arrival of unhappy football supporters….what a shame! I dashed off for my train after another great afternoon. Thanks to all who joined us.
