Sketches from September in Portland OR

I was in Portland for a few days right before my trip to Italy, so I haven’t had time to pay attention to my sketches there until this week.

I note, with some bemusement, how my style in these differs a fair amount from the style of those I just posted from Italy. I have noticed this before, of course! On this site you will see work by sketchers whose style is pretty uniform and then, there are people like me, who have many variations in style, depending, I guess, on mood, on location, on the kind of drawing utensils used. On who knows what.

So here’s what I did in Portland or en route there, in September.

In pencil and wash:

In Pentel Pocket brush pen and wash:

In a brush pen with gloriously waterproof gray ink (it’s a Japanese brand and I can’t read it!) and wash:

And using the same pen I used in the Italy sketches, an Ecco Pigment pen, with wash:
