Life in the Desert

Every year before Christmas I travel from home in Los Angeles out to the Mojave Desert–to the town of Twentynine Palms and Joshua Tree National Park.  It’s always beautiful whatever the weather, and this year especially so with cold, clear days and nights–so lucky!  It’s a welcome change to view life for a bit from a distance…

Wonderful to revisit favorite places, and make new discoveries too, like the ruins of an 1890’s adobe house at Ryan Ranch…home of a family who lived here before Joshua Tree became a National Park…

Having breakfast and sketching life in the present not far from the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Base…

A view I never seem to tire of–the town of Twentynine Palms seen across the desert floor in late afternoon…

…and in the last light on the shortest day of the year…

Happy New Year to All!!
