Activity 3: Drawing a Collection

Instructor: Emma FitzGerald

How many of us grew up hoarding collections of rocks, shells or other favourite objects when we were children? This workshop is all about collecting as well. By focusing on a chosen subject to “collect” in the course of the workshop whether it be ‘doors of Manchester’, or ‘window trim’, we will end up with a collection of sketches that illustrate the ‘rhythm’ of repeated subject matter; both the similarities and differences in what we ‘collect’ can become a point of interest. The architecture of Manchester will prove to be a rich subject matter for our collecting.

Materials needed: sketchbook, pen, preferred sketching materials.
