A Painter who loves to draw
“Drawing to me is as natural as breathing…….
Shapes against the sky excite me, as do patterns of light and dark, negative spaces, balance and strength. I love the tangle of telegraph poles and wires, rooftops and trees; always trees, especially in Winter time but, most of all I love the feeling of a place, or flowers or an empty car park or a hillside: the essence of it. That’s what I try and catch. A sense of place is what sketching is all about to me: that, and collecting memories. My sketchbooks are memory books and precious. Open any one at any page and I’m back there. How wonderful is that? Manchester with its energy, spirit-uplifting buildings and skylines will be a joy.”
