Workshop Instructor and Lecture Presenter: Richard Briggs, Sydney (Australia)

Richard Briggs is a practising artist and architect based in Sydney Australia, whose artworks aim to provoke discussion on the built environment. His simple but at times complex line drawings explore the hidden gems in our cities. He encourages you as the viewer, visitor, and the inhabitant to look at the streets in a different way. From the finer details to large expansive lines of a city skyline, his drawings evolve into patterns that form spaces, and urban quirks which aim to address social issues.

Briggs has been exploring and drawing streets for the past 15 years in various countries around the world such as India, Cambodia, Bolivia and his home town of Sydney. He has taught drawing in both private practise and public forums, and having studied architecture at the Manchester school of architecture, is thrilled to be back to participate in this year’s symposium.
