Emma FitzGerald has followed a career path that is part art, part architecture, completing her studies in Fine Art at the University of British Columbia, and L’Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts de Paris, and her masters in Architecture at Dalhousie University. She has travelled extensively, teaching architecture in the Gambia, West Africa, and working for Peter Rich Architects in Johannesburg, South Africa. She calls Halifax, Nova Scotia home, and has written and illustrated “Hand Drawn Halifax” (Formac Publishing, 2015). All the drawings were done on location, and the combination of images and anecdotal text captures the spirit of her chosen home city. Emma runs a house portraiture business and has participated in several artist residencies, including at Largo das Artes in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and the Santa Fe Art Institute in New Mexico. This will be her second symposium; she was an instructor at the USk symposium in Paraty, Brazil, and is thrilled to reconnect with the USk community in Manchester.
