TRAVEL SKETCH OF TAIPEI

【by Teo Cheng Huat, Beijing, China]

My year end holidays is in Taipei this year spending the new year with my sister , Evelyn and family.

Very relaxing trip mainly eating and did a lots of walking. Café hopping , visiting creative parks, eating Taiwanese  foods and lots of seafood. This is my travel sketch of Taipei city and I totally did not visit any of the tourists spot and attractions.

Tamsui , 淡水meaning ” fresh
water” ,located at the northern tip of Taiwan. This place is famous for amazing
sunset landscape and scenic coastline. Lots of commercial & residential
development

were build during the last few years to
attract more people from downtown Taipei so as to ease the over crowded city
population and traffic congestion. The apartment here are so much cheaper than that
in Beijing or Singapore and most of the property are freehold. This is a sketch
of the ground level garden of the apartment block that I stay in Tamsui. It was
a Saturday morning, the rain just stop and pretty quiet, I guessed most people
are still asleep.

小品食堂cafe at Huashan 1914 Creative Park. Japanese style interior in light
birchwood finish serve very good dessert and coffee. The park used to be old
winery called the Taihoku Winery started 1916. Now is a non-profit organization
providing venue to hold events activities including art cinema, shops, cafes
and gallery. It is a super nice place to spend weekends here strolling around
the park or just sat down watching the people hopping in and out of the many
interesting shops.

Taipei Railway Station or also called
Taipei Main Station , situated in the heart of downtown Taipei city, where
different modes of public transport system converge. I was told the station
handles over half a million passengers daily on conventional rail, metro and
high speed rail. We took a morning train to RuiFang town for breakfast before
taking a bus to Jiufen old town.

數樹私房 shu
shuhouse is a little 2 level house up on the hill of JiuFen in the RuiFang
District New Taipei. The place is own by a flower company called CN Flower
which do lot of floral arrangement for events. Nice place to visit and stay for
a few days to get away from the busy and noisy downtown Taipei. Jiu Fen meaning
“nine portion” in the earlier days because the village used to housed nine
families. Gold was discovered and soon the village develop quickly into a town.
It has been a favorite tourist spot since and lots of abandoned houses was turn
into small Airbnb for weekend stays, etc.

Dinner with Roy & Eveyln in one of the
many Japanese restaurant called
現釀鮮啤酒海鮮燒烤B98 Section 3, Minsheng East Road in downtown Taipei. Served grilled
seafood and home made wheat beer and organic baby corn.

泰镜antique shop, 103 Taipei city, Datong District is one of the many
old shop that sells old Taiwanese household items. We came here to search for
old porcelain bowl and plates. Drew this sketch while my wife search and dig
herself inside the tiny shop , flipping and turning searching for treasure.

Went outskirt  in Beituo District to pick oranges, not in season so we went to enjoy the sun after many days of heavy downpour.

好样情事VVG ACTION Cafe in SongShan Creative Park, Taipei. Is a theme
restaurant cum evenue for branded goods events and wedding. Interesting
interior and decoration, coffee and hot beverage are serve in bowl instead of
cups. Spend my time here in the cafe doing sketches while the girls are
shopping somewhere.
