Flying has become such an ordeal. We travel a lot and I always shrink from thoughts of bewildering airport spaces and cramped airplanes. And still we plan the next trip. I love being in different places, I just hate the getting there — most of the time. Give me train travel any day.

New York City’s JFK terminal 8. Tired from the trudge through security, dreading the flight. The joys of air travel.

My husband Stephen, reading at the hotel. Life on the ground is good.
Stephen and his sister going over books and other objects from the past.
Self portrait with red shoes, on the airplane, heading back to New York City.
