Remembering Flaf at #USkChicago2017

Florian Afflerbach (1980-2016) was a remarkable person and sketcher who touched many people’s lives and left an amazing body of work of more than 2,000 sketches and drawings. His family and friends are preparing a book to help keep his creativity alive. The book: “Florian Afflerbach. Der Zeichner”. A high-quality hard cover book in landscape DIN A4 format featuring about 200 drawings on 300 pages. The initial run for this project is a limited edition of 500 copies at 40 Euros per copy. Once this campaign is over, it will be available at a higher price in stores.

Last year, at the Urban Sketchers Symposium in Manchester, where he was supposed to teach a workshop, Flaf’s untimely passing brought thoughts of him alive by the sketching community. There was a beautiful wall of sketches of cars dedicated to Flaf where anyone could post to commemorate him and his inspiring life.

This year, as the Symposium wraps up with big thanks to everyone who made it and made the event a success, here’s a big shout out in loving memoriam of Flaf for his creative contributions to the community. Urban Sketchers supported the family’s crowd founding project and gave prints as tokens of gratitude to its volunteers. Those who got the cards will receive Flaf’s book when it gets printed next year.

Flaf was gone too soon at 35 but his incredible work, ideas and creative expression can live on with this book in the years to come. Urban Sketchers doesn’t earn money by supporting the crowdfunding campaign. All proceeds cover the printing costs to publish the book.
