Gouache is rarely used by urban sketchers although it is very suitable for use in urban environments.

It has different characteristics in front of watercolor such as texture and opacity, allowing us to explore new pictorial languages in our drawings. Gouache gives us different possibilities to work in different densities: from plaster texture to watercolor texture.

In this workshop we will make contact with gouache like a versatile material for urban sketching. We will work with a limited palette of colors regardless of shadows accuracy or perspective.

When:

Saturday, August 25, 2018, 10:00-4:00

(the same workshop repeats in Palo Alto on Saturday, September 1)

Location:

Arch Art Store, 10 Carolina Street, San Francisco

In this workshop participants will:

  • Discover how to apply the use of gouache technique in urban sketching step by step (characteristics, materials and ways of work)
  • Create a basic palette, color mixtures and texture effects from dry to wet.
  • Find a new way of looking the environment, free and much more enjoyable.
