Meet the Auckland Symposium International Correspondent Simo Capecchi from Naples, Italy.
We are excited to announce our International Urban sketching correspondent who will come to New Zealand to document the daily happenings at the symposium.
The work of the sketching correspondent is very demanding as they have to be in several places at once. When the activities of the symposium are over and everybody gets to relax and digest their day, sketching correspondents have to rush to their computers to scan their drawings and write a summary of the day in sketches.
We couldn’t have wished for a better suited candidate to report on both the symposium activities and its unique location than Capecchi. Her interest in sketch reportage goes a long way. She has worked on a diverse range of projects – lasting one day, a week or an entire year both in crowded festivals and carnivals, in the middle of nature or traveling on a sailing boat. Since 2015, Simo has had a monthly back-column on an Italian travel magazine, designed as a one page reportage.
Having been part of 8 Symposia and an instructor herself, she would like to give back by offering her skills and experience.
“I have been involved in the Urban Sketchers community since the very beginning and I will be forever grateful for the enormous amount of experience and relations it allowed me to achieve. It did shape along the years my way of seeing, traveling, and working, even in my own country where drawing, before the Urban Sketcher appearance, was totally neglected. Being a Symposium correspondent might be an opportunity to celebrate this long adventure and to share my point of view on the community itself.”
