Bayonne’s Lantern Festival

Each year before Christmas time, Bayonne organises a Lantern festival, bringing everyone in a festive mood. The day is filled with events, music and Santa’s distribution of gifts. This merry atmosphere attracts people from everywhere around France and Spain. Come night time, everyone rushes to get their lantern and gathers around the river on the docks and bridges. The lanterns release is a magical moment when families and friends enjoy watching cubes of light lifting up and flying away illuminating the sky.
