today i got bicycle repair day instead of sketchcrawl – diverse malfunction on familybikes need immediate attention.
when i was buying the parts i need in my favorite bicyclestore – marcovelo, i could not resist to do at least this sketch.
though they rented a big store next door, they use for their exibition, the core shop is stil overcrowded with stuff, inbetween the 2 friendly and relieable guys, that run the store, screw bikes.
i fixed a tire, tried to fix light on daughters bike and then turned towards the main patient – my own marin bear valley (proportions originally a bit more elegant, than in my drawing…).
after 18 years intense use, bottom bracket is kaput. the doctors of marcovelo could not get it out for replacement and spoke the verdict: economic total loss.
but after 18 years of use this bike is a bodypart, which i can not bear to amputate. the marcovelo-guys adviced me for selfrepair, first action is, to pour 1/8 of a litre of ballistol oil into the seatmast and wait a week, hoping it disolves rust.
