[Lis Watkins in London] November in London and possibly the last chances to sketch outside before the weather turns too cold. Rich autumnal shades in nature and the start of the twinkling Christmas lightshow along busy shopping streets, the city looks lovely at this time of the year. Staying still, watching the world spin by, drawing with paint and pens in my sketchbook. Nothing I like more. Drawings of the Royal Albert Hall, the Albert Memorial and the Kyoto Garden in Holland Park with watercolour and pen in a Stillman and Birn sketchbook. Plus one from inside the Peter Jones café on Sloane Square.           […]

[Lis Watkins in London] It was lovely to be invited to spend time in the Italian part of Switzerland earlier this month and give two workshops as part of the inaugural USk Week in Intragna, a small hilltop village in the canton of Ticino. The event was hosted by Mario Leimbacher, with Vincent Desplanche and Johanna Krimmel teaching workshops too. As well as lots of sketching, there were also visits to local restaurants, hikes across the stunning landscape plus free time in the afternoons. It was great to meet so many of the Swiss Urban Sketcher community and I was made to feel very welcome. Mario is planning future events […]

Lazy Sunday Afternoon

[by Lis Watkins in London] Meeting together, sharing sketchbooks and stories, drinking coffee in the warmth of an actual café. It’s been a while. Two sketches from an impromptu meet up at Spitalfields Market on Sunday afternoon. Reconnecting with sketching acquaintances from up north and down south. Conversations on the finer points of pens, paper and tentative talk of travel.

Good times

[Lis Watkins in London] Lockdown easing means a chance to travel that bit further in the capital. A visit to Kew, AKA the Royal Botanical Gardens, and it is possible to imagine you are travelling even further afield. On last Friday’s trip, I drew in the Mediterranean Garden and at the Japanese Gateway. Earlier in the week I had also sat by the canal near Kings Cross Station for a quick sketch, giving myself a moment to think back to the fabulous time at the Symposium in Amsterdam.
