私が立っていた場所の右側には、RMJM architectsによるガラスと濃いレンガとスチールの新しいビルがあります。スポーツの記念品が飾られたシティー・バーバーと呼ばれる毛刈り小屋、グラフィティ、そしてグラスゴーらしい艶やかな白いレンガの裏側。私は、オフィスや商業施設に覆われる前のこのような区画を記録するのが好きなのです。

Happy New Year Urban Sketchers! This should be a fun and sketchtastic year. To round off 2010 I subjected myself to a couple of ten-hour-plus ordeals called ‘flying across the Atlantic’. It has been a very modern election – American even – what with the TV debates. The lamp-posters, not allowed until the final week, potentially tell us a lot about the parties: the Lib-Dems do not appear on this lamp-post, perhaps sabotaged? Other sites suggested they had the highest ladders. The Greens have a simple party slogan on thin backing, secured with twine. The Tories do not even name a party here – quite the opposite from the party-centric advertising in more sympathetic England. ザ・タイン
ノーサンバーランドはイングランドに隣接し、ハドリアヌスの旧ローマ国境が幅を利かせている。日曜日にヘクサムを訪れた。伝統的なレンガ造りの建物が立ち並ぶ古いマーケット・タウンで、奇妙なサンドストーンの輝きがあった。ヘクサムの後はトゥーン（ニューカッスル）へドライブし、『ゲット・カーター』（実際はゲーツヘッドにある）の駐車場が壊れる前に描くことができた。

ロックストック

オークニー
カークウォールに着いて5時間も経っていないのに、目が覚めてしまった。電気のスイッチや水を入れるグラスを探そうと、ズボンのまま歩き回った。結局、外に出て電気を消した。少し混乱して、遠くの水平線を見つめていた。1分ほどして、空に奇妙な光がちらちらしているのがわかり、疲れてぼんやりした頭でそれが何なのか考えようとした。これはきっとオーロラだ、もう少し明るければ、と思いながら、それがオーロラであることに気がついた。緑のカーテンが地平線を横切っていく [...]...
ニオイの元
エディンバラの西側はいつもホップのような濃厚な香りが漂っていますが、その源は私の家からわずか1マイルのところにあるカレドニアン・ブルワリーです。子供の頃、車で祖母の家に行くとき、市街地に入るとその匂いが鼻孔に染み付いていました。今では、私の大好きなビール、Deuchars IPAを製造している醸造所として知っています。この絵を描きながら、David Macaulayのことを思い出しました。
アドボケート 閉じる
ハイストリートから続く北向きのクローズ（小道）は、その景色を美しく縁取っている。中央遠方には、海の向こうに別の郡を見ることもできる。そうして、エジンバラがとても魅力的な場所である理由。
