We’re happy to announce the release of the book “Urban Sketchers in Lisbon. Drawing the city.” put together by Eduardo Salavisa and edited by Editora Quimera-at the Lisbon Art School (FBAUL) on the 12th of December at 6pm. This book with more than 300 hundred drawings is the end result of and event that got together more than 200 people from 20 different countries in Lisbon to sketch and talk about sketching, the Urbansketchers Symposium that took place July 21-23. It’s already been a month since the Symposium brought a bunch of urban sketchers together in Lisbon. Those three days are still buzzing in my head. As one of the organizers, I was mostly concentrated in keeping things to schedule. With the exception of this sketch of João Catarino during the Contrastes workshops, I didn’t really get in sketching mode until Saturday’s 32nd World Wide SketchCrawl at Praça do Comerço. The setting was perfect to focus on the magnificient architecture of the square, but I turned to my fellow sketchers instead and mixed in some spatial elements like the square’s arches and the statue of King José I. Nearly 200 sketchers from more than 20 countries are gathering in Lisbon this week for the 2nd International Urban Sketching Symposium. We’re sharing the experience before, during and after the event on the Symposium blog, where you can already browse through a wealth of information, including participants introductions, Q&As with instructors and speakers, and those photos of sketching gear we all love to look at.
