After I had finished drawing but before I began the watercolor, a TV news van parked exactly in the center of my field of view. As the cameraman started lugging cables and equipment out from the back, I looked to my right and saw what the news story was going to be about. The statue next to me was headless! Earlier that morning a troubled individual had taken a rock and broken off the head of the marble statue of St. Anthony of Padua, the saint for whom San Antonio is named. And I was sitting right next to it! So much for this urban-sketcher’s “observational skill!”
The statue’s head was found and will hopefully be reattached.
