Bagnaia’s Piazza

No doubt, whereas some Urban Sketches are practitioners of quick sketching, I’m quite the latter. I’m most often, a “long-form”sketcher. Especially for this drawing, which took a number of hours over the course of two days.

I was lucky to sit on a shady, church staircase giving me a nice direct view of this clump of houses in the small town of Bagnaia in Central Italy. Sitting for so long, I absorb a great deal. But, whether I’m creating a long or short drawing, it’s the impression that matters most; the feeling that that attracted me to the place in the first place. That’s what’s the most crucial. Frame of mind is as important as framing the page.
