[von Paul Wang, Singapore] Bali is an island that I visit very frequently since 2001 and this year I decided to begin 2017 with a short revisit. Only 2.5 hours away by air from Singapore, it is just one of the thousands of island that make up Indonesia. My main reason was to revisit Ubud and use this short getaway to think about the new year ahead. I must not forget to mention how much I missed the food here in Ubud. Many new cafes and restaurants have sprung since my last trip 2 years ago.
2 highlights from this trip to Bali. First highlight was climbing Mount Batur which is the 2nd highest active volcano on the island. 1717m above sea level. Last eruption was 2000. It was a steep climb which started at 4am and after 2 hours of trekking we arrived at the peak to witness a beautiful sunset. Of course I brought along my sketchbook to capture this unforgettable experience.
Second highlight was meeting up with the bali sketchers during my stay in Ubud. Everyone was very hospitable and welcoming. It was nice to sketch together and share our sketching experiences. Give them a shout out if you are going to visit Bali soon. They will be more than happy to show you around.
You can find more sketches of Ubud hier.
