After Italy, to Holland…

By Stephanie Bower, Seattle

Built mostly in the 13th century, Den Haag’s Binnenhof is the oldest house of parliament in the world that is still in use.  This space is an amazing plaza, a virtual symphony in brick, with a small arched opening at one end (behind me in the sketch) and another small opening in the distance–visually, you are pulled from one to the other.  The Ridderzaal or Knight’s Hall is at its center and is where the king or queen delivers an annual speech from the throne.

It was wonderful to visit family here in this beautiful city.  My cousin is so fortunate to get to work in these amazing buildings.  Perhaps a workshop here next year, as the architecture is amazing…

Next stop, Singapore…
