USk Workshop: How to Improve Drawing People

Join Caroline Parkinson at Coventry Central Library for a morning of drawing people in an urban environment.

Drawing people in an urban environment can be challenging for urban sketchers. This short workshop is a simple introduction for artists wishing to improve their confidence and skills, introducing them to some useful techniques and tips, and then trying them out!

At the end of the workshop students should be able to:

• Understand how to draw a variety of figure types using a combination of simple shapes

• Understand how to use measurements to keep figures in proportion

• Use a “walk cycle” to draw people moving in an urban environment

• Be more confident and have fun!

Students will be introduced to some simple techniques before heading out into the city centre to put their experience to use. If the weather’s bad, students can stay within the library where a craft fair will hopefully provide plenty of subjects to sketch!

This will be followed by a mini-critique and an opportunity for questions

Students will receive a hand out at the end of the session with a guide on techniques and a recommended reading list.
