From Street Art to Symposium Star Mr Periscope Welcomes You to Poznań

Mr Periscope, or Pan Peryskop, is one of Poznań’s most beloved characters. Created around 2011 by an anonymous urban artist who calls himself Noriaki, in reference to the famous Japanese ski jumper, Noriaki Kasai. this one-eyed figure has become part of the city’s visual language. You can find him peeking from walls, windows, and unexpected corners, always watching with a quiet curiosity.

Over the years, Noriaki’s Watcher has taken many forms. He walks dogs, leans out of balconies, or simply stands and stares. Locals know him well. He’s playful, mysterious, and full of character.

In December 2023, Mr Periscope took a new form. A sculpture now stands on Plac Bernardyński, featuring a mirrored face that reflects the viewer. Officially named Selfie Watcher, it invites people to see themselves in the city.

Now, as we gather in Poznań for the 13th Urban Sketchers International Symposium in Poznan, Mr Periscope greets us as more than a mascot. He is a symbol of connection. An invitation to pause, observe, and be part of the story unfolding around us.

Follow this character for inspiration and insights into USk Education as we follow members of the Education team and 2025 Faculty. The programme includes Workshops, Demos, Activities, Lectures and much much more !
