Drawing class

I was on a course last week, charcoal drawing every day for four days, eight hours a day – it was great to have so much time to concentrate and do intensive work and to meet other artists enjoying the same experience, but whew, I was tired at the end of it! I did this quick […]

Yas hotel Abu Dhabi

I went out with my friend Wasel to Abu Dhabi and we stopped to check the Yas hotel. It is a fascinating structure that stretches into the F1 circuit. (I should have done a sketch of the exterior but here is a link for my architects friends) We had a drink (non alcoholic-great fruit coctels) […]

To draw is to travel

Very often, I review some of my sketchbooks – specially after non-stop working days at the studio – in search for escape. Every time I feel the urge to get away, even if only for brief moments, I sit down, open a randomly chosen sketchbook and just let my self go to another place and time…

Ballooned Meter/Metered Balloon

I was cleaning out my hard drive and came across this sketch that I did near a neighborhood store advertising its service (I can’t even remember what that was….) Is this a “ballooned meter” that is about to leave its grounded state to float away? Or is this a “metered balloon” that you have to […]

Capoeira

These are sketches made on the second meeting of Dibujo Barcelona, a new group that tries to join sketching with every kind of performance. In this case the mix was drawing and capoeira. We’ve been invited to see a rehearsal of the group “Capoeira Cordão de Ouro” of Barcelona by our fellow sketcher and capoeirista […]

sitting here resting my bones

The day before my birthday I went down to San Francisco to see the sights and sketch the ships. Februaries are gorgeous in SF, sunny, fog free, warm. Well I’m usually lucky with the weather. Except that time last February when it bucketed down all day. Anyway, I got out at Pier 39, which is […]

Inside and out in Brooklyn, otra vez.

Connecting with gravity on the F train. Turning the year. Sketchblog: DayBooks Both drawings: 6 x 9 in.; watercolor, ink, Derwent pencils, Aquabee sketchbook.

Wild Orchid

This I did at a photo shoot in Craig Cutler’s studio. I’ve done a few flowers before but this is a new one. It ranks high on my list of flower drawings.

Beer & music

I drew this sketch at a local pub. I think the beer that I’ve drunk before and the poor lighting helped me to filter my drawing from unnecessary details 🙂

Ila Design – ancient gold, brought to life

An esoteric craft such as goldsmithing is the kind of thing that leaves me inspired, and simultaneously doubting I’ll ever master something that….tangible. How can you not love an art form where you get to wield a flaming torch and hammer pure gold? It puts you into some kind of Lord of the Rings fantasy […]

Hong Kong Experience!

My previous visit to Hong Kong was decades back, so when I went back again last December, it was full of expectation. The excitement was heighten by the fact that this will be my first sketches of Hong Kong. I was not disappointed at all. For accommodation, I was advised to stick to that noisy […]

Lower Ninth Ward, New Orleans

I just returned from a quick trip to New Orleans, where I decided to draw in the Ninth Ward, that was flooded so badly during Hurricane Katrina. Six years later, the neighborhood is still devastated, especially the lower ninth, east of the Clairborne Street bridge. The area once packed with small homes is now covered […]
