Remember Paris

[by Norberto Dorantes in Paris, France]

Who has not dreamt of drawing in Paris?

Last summer I had the opportunity to return to Paris. And living in Buenos Aires always reminds me of this beautiful city. The french and english influence is breathed in the streets of my city.

The first drawing is a kind of experiment, I did it by drinking coffee in front of the Opera de Paris. My plan was to work in panoramic format alternating full and empty. The presence of white-empty space reinforces the presence of forms and architecture. I think it is not necessary to draw the whole scene to show a location or situation.

Ink, 75×21 cms watercolor paper in moleskine sketchbook.

In 2013 I drew the Eiffel tower it was a challenge to draw it so close, I ended up with problems in my neck!

As a non waterproof ink fan, I took advantage of the unexpected of this ink in combination with water to create some interesting effects. I did it in my Stillman & Birn sketchbook.

In that same trip of 3 years ago I drew the apse and the arrow of Notre Dame but of more classic way, pencil and watercolor. The format is: 60×50 on watercolor paper.

I still dream of returning to Paris …. and drawing its streets and its people. 2017?
