Across from the Royal Hotel…

Hanging Garden

This is the historic Oaks Hotel, across from the Royal I showed in my last post…the vines had sprouted in the basement and grew behind the walls all the way to the second floor and balcony. It was in the process of renovation then, and now has been completely restored as rather upscale senior housing. They’ve done a beautiful, sensitive job…I’ll be sketching the beautiful bas relief stone carvings when I can. (I kind of miss the “hanging gardens,” though!)

I was sitting on the decrepit porch of the Royal to draw this–I hope one day to be sitting in the restored sunroom, here, and drawing a restored Royal.

Sienna ink and watercolor…
