in the town where i was born

st margarets church, edgware
I am originally from Burnt Oak, an area in north London which often comes under the neighbour suburb of Edgware (they are the last two stops on the Northern Line for you tube enthusiasts). I did a bit of sketching while I was back; above, the church of St.Margaret’s in Edgware, on Station Road. I used to pass this way on the way to school every day for what felt like a million years. Edgware is a bit more run-down than it used to be; I sketched this outside what used to be a great old tavern, the Railway, now boarded up, opposite the empty shop where I used to buy guitar strings. I wrote about this all on my blog. Below, Burnt Oak Library, the new look version, now painted black, with a monstrous carbuncle of a tiled entranceway added to the front. I spent so many days in here looking through their language books. That road you can see leads up Orange Hill, where I grew up. I sketched this seated on the steps of the big evangelical church on Watling Avenue. There’s a couple of hoodies, look.

In case you’re wondering, I was born about halfway between these two scenes.
