To meet nother sketchers might be common to many, but to me, it’s just more than fantastic. It is still fresh in me how wonderful I felt at the first meeting with two skethcers, whose works I so admired, from Penang and Singapore.
It started when Ch’ng Kiah Kheang step out of his lovely new car, we reached out our hands in greeting that Sunday morning, and we never look back! The whole day was then pack with truly lovely images of Penang that would last in me for a long, long time from now.
The following is just a few of Penang that I managed to transfer down to paper within that short stay. There were so much more of course that I could not express thrugh my love of sketching. The freindship, the joy, the appreciation of the interest we shared in arts, drawing, sketching and FOODS!
That was all I could say from the experience in meeting with Ch’ng and Khoo in Penang and Tia in Singapore (more on Singapore and you, Tia, in my next post)
We started our Penang morning, you guess it!, with a great breakfast at a local corner coffee shop. After a tour of the very interesting and unique waterfront community nearby, we headed back to town area as it was too hot for the waterfront.
We found a spot and decided to have a go at the intersection of Beach Street and Armenian Street.
My view of typical shop house commonly seen in Penang.
And an attractive corner unit of shop house.

Through Ch’ng, I had the opportunity to meet Khoo, the present president of the Watercolor Society of Penang. Khoo was concentrating on his wonderful work.
We went back to the unique Clan Jetty, that several sea front community built, and presently lived-in, by several clan of early chinese settlers. Ch’ng allowed me to try out his long format paper on of the jetty.
It was a challenge on a paper of nearly 4xA4 length and I truly enjoyed it.
Another fisherman’s jetty from other part of Penang.

I had a good time in Penang, thanks to the hospitality of Ch’ng and Khoo. As promised, you must allow me (and Pramote) the chance to show you our Bangkok some time.
And to all my fellow USk’s sketchers, my invitation is certainly extended to all as well. I think our world would be a much better place to live in by our type of visit to each others.
