Sketching in the Louvre Museum

I was able to sketch in the Louvre Museum on my recent trip to Paris. The sketch above was done while having lunch after a mammoth walk around the Denon and Richelieu wings looking at the paintings. It’s very easy to get fit walking around the Louvre!

The museum itself is not quite as sketching friendly as the museums in London – I’ve still to work out whether they have sketching stools and if so where they are!

Fortunately the room with the three Rembrandt self-portraits had a seat in front of them. So I got to indulge my perennial habit of trying to improve my portraiture through sketching Rembrandt self-portraits. Every time I do this I learn a bit more about why he was such a very good artist – not that my portraits are any good!

Across the Rue de Rivoli from the Louvre is the Jardin des Palais Royal where yet more people were sitting next to or on the wall around the pool which surrounds the fountain.

I do love the chairs you get in French parks and gardens – you get to sit just where you want!
