drawing in London’s galleries

During this cold weather I’ve not been outside drawing so much (too much of a wimp), but I have been visiting galleries, and doing the odd drawing while looking at the art

At the Royal Academy there’s a small sculpture show, including Gaudier-Brezka’s ‘Bird swallowing fish’ sculpture

Downstairs in the main RA Galleries there was the wonderful Anish Kapoor show, which included some early colour pigment pieces

and a room full of great mirror pieces

and a large installation resembling the cochlea of an ear…

Later in the week I visited the National Gallery, and checked out a small show about making polychrome sculpture in Spain. amazing pieces…

I also sat for a while with Titian, studying the ‘Diana and Actaeon’ that we (the British public) have bought for £6m. I’m not sure I get Titian, I’m afraid to say.

So I went to visit my favourite Cezannes, and as usual the room was full of visitors, mostly crowded around Van Gogh’s Sunflowers. A group of small schoolchildren in red jumpers caught my eye as they sat there drawing.
