Park Guell, Barcelona

It was a long and wonderful summer of travel for me and I’ve finally had the chance to scan some more of the drawings I made in Barcelona. These are drawings I did at Gaudi’s Park Guell – a fabulous fantasy in concrete and ceramic that I have wanted to see for 20 years! Well, the park did not disappoint – what color and shape and textures there were! I grabbed every material I could and did the first drawing above in a high state of excitement! What a place!

Then I went inside the building drawn above and oh man was it beautiful. The high arches and cool temperatures were sublime and the street musician playing Spanish guitar enhanced the magic immensely. The structure resembled sunflowers to me; it seemed we were looking at the bottoms of them while they stretched up to the sun. I have no idea if that’s what Gaudi intended but I liked playing with the notion in my drawings.

Finally I went on top of the sunflower archways and drew the famous serpent bench. Stunning. It was like seeing a celebrity in person, I have wanted to ‘meet’ this bench in this park for a long time. Good to see you! More drawings from the day on my blog if you’d like to see them. Posted by Veronica.
