Grand Central Market

I visited the Grand Central Market in downtown Los Angeles, another landmark of L.A. history…the market goes back over 80 years! I was there on a mission, to buy the fragrant dark chiles used for making mole (the spicy, chocolate-ly Mexican sauce, not the burrowing animal!) It’s very busy at lunchtime, with shoppers, tourists and jurors on a break from the nearby courthouse. Of course it called for lunch (tamales and plantains) and sketching…the ethnic mix of foods reflects the diversity of Los Angeles…
