Renoir cinema, London

The Renoir cinema is located in the once rundown but now regenerated Brunswick shopping centre, close to Russell Square. It pops up out of the concrete surroundings like some cultural snorkel, luring passers-by to its arthouse offerings below the surface.

With the family out of town and an evening spreading before me, I went to see Le Quattro Volte, either a spiritual exploration of time and space or piece of boring nonsense, depending upon your stance. It is without dialogue or plot, and two of its main stars are a goat and a tree, but I stayed awake throughout (the ultimate test of cinematic success for me), became increasingly enthralled, and would even tip the goat as an outsider for an Oscar nomination.
