Are You Lookin’ At Me?

Humans are predisposed to seeing faces. Facial recognition is a survival instinct, actually.  Students of mine often point out that my work features faces, but I can’t say that I do it on purpose… except once.

Picking up my son recently from his volunteer job at a local hospital, I left the parking lot and came face to face with this most obvious character.  Within a week, I planted myself in the shrubs across the street to draw this happy house. I wonder, does the family who lives there see it?  Do they feel welcomed… or swallowed, as they pull into their garage?

Below is a more typical drawing of mine, where others find a face long after the drawing is completed and to the surprise of the creator.
