A Day at Descanso Gardens

For 33rd Worldwide Sketchcrawl, Los Angeles group went to Descanso Gardens.  I also met my fellow Los Angeles Urban Sketcher, Virginia Hein, for the first time! You can see her sketches from that day and photos of the group here.

The day was the perfect combination of summer and autumn, with warm air and long shadows, with sunlight dappling through the leaves. I was particularly struck by how light and shadow created many patterns, so I played more with dabs of color and negative spaces in my painting to emphasize them.

More of my sketches from Descanso Gardens are at my blog post.
