I DRAW CARS sketchbook and reference guide

I’ve been wanting to tell you something for a long time.

As a child, I wanted to be a car designer. So, for me, it was an acceptable gift what I saw a couple of months ago: the „I DRAW CARS sketchbook and reference guide is an indispensible tool for students, designers, hobbyists, artists and car enthusiasts“. I have made a request to one of the book’s creators, Matt Marocco, to comment on his and my work:

„The notion of I DRAW CARS came to me when I was thinking about what sort of creative project I should do. I had several ideas on the burner, but none spoke to my passions for design sketching and cars quite like I DRAW CARS. It was very fun to develop; learning the twists and turns of putting out a product is a very educational process. It was a valuable lesson, and something all creatives should try doing themselves. Who knows – you could end up starting a business!“

I was so happy when I discovered the book on the internet and made an order immediately. I wrote a book review and contacted the authors of the book after I made several sketches in it. Most of them are car sketches from the streets. Here’s what Marocco thinks about my work:

„Upon seeing Florian’s sketches, I was immediately taken aback. They were good, but good in a different way than I was used to. Car design sketches usually follow a very tried and true formula with line weight, perspective and dramatic angles. Florian’s simplistic, painterly sketches really stood out as different and I had to reach out to him. His use of the book is exactly what I was hoping to inspire upon its inception – provide the tool and let others use it how they please.“ His style of street sketching brings a fresh, new approach to the table, which I why I asked him to become a Featured Designer.“

Marocco made me a Featured Designer on the book’s homepage, where you also can have a look for more information. I’m very proud to be part of such a great project. For the future, there are several new products in the development cycle.

As a summary, Marocco said that „the key to becoming a good designer is practice. Keep sketching and the talent will come.“ As an urban sketcher, I can emphasize that completely.
