Rio de Janeiro

I live about 1 hour flight from Rio, and I went there only twice.

When I went there for the first time, I didn’t enjoyed so much. I was too worry about safety, the weather was bad, and I was driving (the traffic is heavy!). I didn’t sketch back then.

Last week was my second visit to Rio. I have to say it changed a lot my thoughts about this incredible city.

The sun was shinning but it wasn’t too hot.

It was absolutely beautiful. I totally reccomend this season if you want to visit Rio.

I had a entire day available for fun (it means sketching!).

I decided to (finally!!) visit Corcovado, where the statue of Chirst the Redeemer is.

It’s a lifetime experience! the view is sooo beautiful. Breathtaking!

I made some sketches there, in the middle of the crowd. There were tourists from every part of the world, and also lots os Brasilian tourists.

I bump into a friend on the top of Corcovado! What are the chances?

Well, let’s go to the sketches, in the order I made then.

First one. I was kind of nervous, because that is the most desired spot to take pictures of  Bahia de Guanabara
I made the sketch there and later added the notes about the trip.
Christ the Redeemer. Someone said I did Him too serious. I just tried to do the way I was seeing the statue. I was under his feet, and so there is something weird about its proportions, but I really like the result – the sketch was made without lines, only masses of pale blue and shades of grey.
Classic view of Sugar Loaf (Pão de Açucar). In the foreground you can see part of the hill and the crowd of tourists.
Another aspect of Rio, seen from Corcovado. That was my fifth sketch over there, and I was getting tired. Morro dois Irmãos and Pedra da Gávea.
Copacabana and Pão de Açúcar in the background.

Above, Copacabana beach and Morro do Cantagalo on the background, with a small favela hanging dangerously in the slope.

I asked a kid to help me to take this picture.
