"Cathedrals of the Prairies"

Nanton, Alberta – grain elevators, originally uploaded by Matthew-1.

Pete and Cathy’s posts inspired me to upload a grain elevator sketch I did last summer.

Not such a great sketch as the proportions are off (the towers are much thinner and more elegant than what you see here), but that’s okay.

They call these structures the “Cathedrals of the Prairies” and it’s easy to see why. They are disappearing fast though, it seems they are just not economically viable any more.

This one happens to be a dual spire Cathedral – no rose window unfortunately!
