“Sydney” sketches for the Urban Sketches Exhibition

I am very excited to be part of the Urban Sketchers exhibition at the Ackland Museum. Thanks to Laura for all her hard work in organizing it.

Sketching on loose sheets of paper was challenging for me – I love the freedom of just drawing in my own book and put more pressure on myself when trying to do a ‘good’ sketch) I was also incredibly busy at the time. So the images that I sent off turned out to be very typical “liz-subjects” – well within my comfort zone!

These two of the Sydney Opera House were done during the Vivid light and Sound festival. The first was sketched in mid afternoon on a glorious winters day. I don’t think I have ever seen the Opera House glowing with such golden sunlight. The second was done during the festival – when the Opera House is all lit up with moving imagery. I want quite a while for an interesting colorful sequence and then added the colour quickly.

And of course, I sketched 2 images at my favourite tearoom – T2 teahouse at Macquarie Centre. I am trying to sketch more than just the tea cup and pot on my table.
